Jamie Evans became our Winemaker in August of 2009. Prior to this, he served as winemaker and consulting winemaker to several other Niagara wineries beginning in 1997. Jamie has an Honours BA from the University of Ottawa (Don’t tell anyone, but he is actually a trained classical archaeologist). Fortunately for us, he is also a graduate of Brock University’s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute.

Jamie’s wines have won numerous awards over the years and have been enthusiastically received by the public, his winemaking peers and wine writers alike. Gord Stimmell of The Toronto Star, noted that his line of 2007 Reserve red wines were ‘absolutely stellar’. His winemaking philosophy could best be summed up in his oft quoted axiom of ‘respect the fruit; never allow wine to forget from whence it comes.”

Jamie takes incredible pride in what he does and has been known to go to great lengths in his pursuit to create extraordinary wines. He is more likely to be found walking the vineyards or sampling barrels in our cellar than he is to be seen in the board room. He is also constantly striving through ongoing experimentation to find ways to improve the quality of the wines he makes. ‘Nothing is possible without keeping the big picture always at the forefront. If you can see where it is you want to go, and map out what is necessary to get there, anything is possible.”

We here at Peninsula Ridge like to think that the best is yet to come!
